The Chaumont castle lies on a hill towering over the river Loire, plunged in the middle of a thick forest. The property was bought by Caterina De’ Medici who resided here until the death of her husband Henry II. Afterwards Caterina traded the Chaumont castle for her favourite castle, Chenonceau. forcing her rival Diana de Poitiers to make the exchange.
From the aesthetic point of view Chaumont looks more like a fortress than a castle. The only access is provided by the drawbridge placed between two majestic towers. The castle also includes large stables and twenty-six beautiful gardens, where every year the prestigious “Festival des Jardins” is held.. www.domaine-chaumont.fr
